2021 Social Media Marketing Tips

Social media is evolving… At neck-breaking speeds no doubt, making it hard for some entrepreneurs to keep up. There’s a lot that you can expect in 2021, as far as social media is concerned.

From Facebook’s AR Spark gaining, which is currently gaining popularity, to Instagram becoming a digital storefront for brands.

In 2021 and beyond, your brand is going to have only two options:

Either adapt or go down in flames.

If you don’t come up with new social media ideas that will help to make your brand stand out, you’ll be left behind.

You may ask: “What should be my game plan for improving social media marketing this year?”

Since it’s the beginning of the year, you might be trying to come up with new ideas to improve your social media marketing. Maybe you think you should create a new social media strategy that would be a blueprint you’ll use to increase your brand awareness and drive more people to your website.  Or… try to increase engagement by sharing video content that resonates with your target market.  Whatever it is that you’ll try this year, it should begin with this: an in-depth social media audit.

First and foremost, REVIEW your social media metrics to find out where you need to make amendments. Run a Google search to see if any of your social media accounts appear on the first page. Then go ahead and check things such as your competitors, what is it that they do differently? Also, what worked in the previous year?  For example, which campaigns were successful and which ones were not.

Next up, IDENTIFY your S.M.A.R.T social media goals, which means your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound. In other words, what is it that you want to achieve with your social media marketing this year, and by when? While at it, make sure your goals are aligned with your overall marketing objectives, which could be anything like increasing brand awareness, generating leads, and so on.

Quick facts, here’s why social media marketing still matters:

When Hootsuite reached out to several business owners to find how they will allocate their budgets for social media marketing in 2021, this is what they found out:

  • 60% of entrepreneurs said they were planning to increase their Instagram budget in 2021,
  • whereas 46% of them revealed that they will be upping their Facebook budget.
  • Interestingly, Hootsuite found out that 45% of businesses are allocating more budgets for YouTube ads than in the previous years.
  • At least there are more than 3.5 billion people who are using social media right now, this number is expected to increase to 6 billion by 2024.

As you can see from the above stats, most businesses will still continue investing in social media marketing. However, the only challenge is most of them don’t seem to have a game plan for acing social media marketing. In this article, we’ll be sharing with you some ideas that you can use to improve your social media marketing. Let’s dive in!

  1. Personalize Your Social Campaigns

If you want to convert more leads with your social media than you did in 2020, then it’s best to adopt a personalized approach that will enable you to engage your audience on a more personal level. To achieve this, you need to make an effort to know your audience better.

Take the time to analyze the demographics of your existing customers. Find out what their interests are, their educational background, marital status, age, and where they live.

This will not only help you to segment your potential customers effectively but also to create campaigns that talk directly to them.

  1. Use video content more often

In 2021 it is expected that customers will spend 100 minutes a day watching videos online. Including video content in your social media is the only gasoline that you’d need for your content to reach great heights. Plus, you have an option to use how-to videos, promotional videos, or live videos. So, to make sure that your videos stand out, hire someone who can edit them for you.

  1. Incorporate retargeting ads into social media marketing

If you haven’t tried retargeting ads before, 2021 can be a good year to do so. When retargeting ads are used effectively, they can turn random social media users who are browsing for products or services into paying customers. With many people spending a lot of time on Facebook than on their email lately, this would be much easier. What’s more, setting up social media retargeting for social media requires little effort when you use tools such as Adroll.

  1. You don’t have to use all social media channels

Let’s get one thing straight: you don’t have to use all social media platforms to promote your business in 2021. Most companies will be cutting social media channels this year; something which you should consider doing as well. Once you know which social media channels are worth investing time and resources on, you will be one step ahead of your competitors who are still wasting money on the wrong platforms.

Here’s a tip: if you are a B2C brand, you need to be active on Facebook and Instagram. While if you are a B2B company LinkedIn will be perfect for you.

  1. Livestream all your events

Live Streaming increased significantly last year, and this trend will continue in 2021. Live Streaming an event is one of the most affordable ways to launch new products and engage your customers better, no matter where they are in the world. Versatile tools like Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and Periscope allows you to live-stream your events and enjoy high attendance and participation. Be sure and promote your live event prior to the event though. Don’t expect to get a large audience without warning your fans that you will be doing something cool… Be thoughtful in your approach.

  1. Use Instagram stories

There has been a substantial increase in people who are using Instagram Stories on a daily basis. This trend is expected to continue in 2021 and beyond. So, consider sharing your behind-the-scenes stories and new products by using Instagram Stories to drive audience engagement. And a dash of fun to your Instagram Stories by fusing stickers and text. Instagram stickers come in different designs and can help to make your story to be noticeable.

  1. Start thinking about augmented reality and virtual reality

In 2021 more companies will be using augmented reality and virtual reality to boost their social media marketing. You can do this as well. Jump on the bandwagon and start using branded filters to promote your brand on social media platforms. On the other hand, AR will allow your potential customers to try your products while browsing items on Instagram.

  1. Use checklist posts

Creating checklist posts has become the latest “in” thing for social media marketing. Most people love downloading checklists and lead magnets to educate themselves. Once in a while share a well-designed checklist on your Facebook page, and watch engagement soar as more people like it, save it on their smartphones, and share it with their friends.
